I recently moved to Hilton Head Island from up north. I’ve never been here for a hurricane. Will they issue an evacuation early enough? Should I just pack some belongings and leave?

hey i live here too im in port royal plantation im only 14 but my fam is leaving on wed or thurs itll be here friday morning not even five minites ago cbs news said that savannah was prbly going on mandatory evac on wed they arent even in the direct path either we are!!! im leaving just get a plastic bin and put special things in it and get out since ur new u prbly dont know that anything over a high 2 will put the whole island underwater
don’t leave yet. not at least for another day or two. you should be getting ready. border windows not now but soon if the storm guarantees to hit. also get lots of fresh water, cut tree branches hanging near or over your house. all patio plants should be in a sheltered area blocked from wind. any hanging plants should be brought down before the storm hits. also all important medicines and papers should be taken care of. also dont forget about you pets if you have any
I think the options are: 1. Take a risk it was for nothing and leave now while the roads aren’t packed with evacuees and it might be possible to get a hotel room or 2. Wait for the evacuation order and deal with the traffic and lack of readily available lodging.
If it were me, I’d use it as an excuse to visit relatives in another state or something and leave now. Hilton Head looks like it’s going to be dead center in the range of places Hanna could land.
There’s a direct link to the National Hurricane Center’s projected path of Hanna on.
It also has links to local news coverage in the affected areas, Red Cross and ready.gov preparation tips, live streaming online webcams, and other Hanna-related links.
I heard Hanna wasn’t that big of a storm but that Ike is going to threaten us. But just to make sure, follow the safety procedures.
Take all things from your patio or balcony in to your house (plastic chairs, plants, etc.) because those may fly away easily. Make sure you have a lot of water and nonperishable foods. And if you can grab a hurricane radio (check publix or other stores to find one). Lastly stay AWAY from windows.
But ALWAYS remember to “expect the unexpected”! You should be prepared if the hurricane picks up speed, or if it stalls over your area. Make sure you tune in to your news channel (WTOC or WSAV) for updates. And good luck.
